In an update to the 2023 calendar, the Shenzhen meeting will be moved from August 3rd to September 2nd, while the Shanghai meeting scheduled for 29th July will no longer take place as planned.
Shenzhen is set to make its Wanda Diamond League debut this season, as the world’s premier one-day athletics series returns to China for the first time in four years. The meeting will take place at the Bao’an Stadium, a state-of-the-art, 40,000-capacity arena which has previously hosted football at the 2011 Summer Universiade. It will be the 11th Wanda Diamond League to take place in China, with Shanghai having been a fixture in the series’ calendar from 2010 to 2019.
The return of the traditional Shanghai meeting has been postponed. The planned modernisation of the city’s two major stadiums has been delayed during the pandemic, meaning that neither will be ready in time to host the Wanda Diamond League. Shenzhen will be the 12th meeting in this year’s Wanda Diamond League, which encompasses 14 of the world’s most prestigious one-day events.
Athletes compete for points at the 13 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on 16th-17th September. Click here to see the 2023 Wanda Diamond League calendar in full.
